Valuables

Valuables

From time to time during the school year, students are invited to bring valuables/taonga from home to share at school.  These times are normally chosen by the teachers to support a particular learning focus within the classroom.

Outside of this situation, students are encouraged and expected to not bring precious things (valuables/taonga) to school.  For students in Years 3-8, each area of the school provides a “Minding Box” resource, a safe place for valuables such as wallets and phones to be stored during the school day and returned before the students are dismissed at the end of the school day.  In the event that a student needs to bring something precious or valuable to school, it is expected that the student will place the taonga in the Minding Box when invited to do so at the beginning of the school day.  The school does not accept any responsibility for the loss of or the damage to any taonga which are not placed in the Minding Box for safe-keeping.

Students often ask if they can bring a special toy or some trading cards or a special game to school to share with their friends.  We believe that these special treasures should be kept safe at home, not brought to school.  In the event that they are brought to school, they will generally be looked after by the classroom teacher until the end of the school day.
